        TO ADORE OUR LORD!

The Franciscan Handmaids of the Immaculate seek daily to draw closer to Our Lord.  Adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament is fundamental to Our spiritual life as we seek to conform our hearts unto His.  Additionally, praying the Liturgy of the Hours, the rosary, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Sorrows, we place ourselves in the Immaculate Heart of Mary, asking Her to bring us closer to Her Son.

The Story of Our Lady of Le-Puy

Our Lady of Le-Puy

France, bounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, is the second largest country in Europe, a little smaller than the state of Texas, and is sectioned with plains and mountains, rolling hills and abundant rivers.

Rugged cliffs front its coastline along the English Channel and stretch along the Atlantic Ocean to the Pyrénées in the south, the border with Spain, while the snowcapped Alps span across its border with Italy.  The country's highest point is Mont Blanc with an altitude of 15,770 feet and is the second highest point in Europe.  France is cooler and wetter to the north and west and warmer and drier near the Mediterranean but overall maintains a principally temperate climate.

Gasp!!!   New Heating system at the convent!

10/5/2015

We give thanks to God for procuring a new has heating system for the convent.  We weren't sure that the old oil furnace would last another winter.  There is much talk in these here parts saying that we will have another cold winter.   Time will tell, but Our Heavenly has provided this great gift for us.  Thanks be to God!

It is the Divine Furnace of Love who loves us tenderly, infinitely.  We think of The Divine Furnace in the lives of the saints:
"
I understood so well that it is only love which makes us acceptable to God - that this love is the only good I ambition. Jesus deigned to show me the road that leads to this Divine Furnace, and this road is the surrender of the little child who sleeps without fear in its Father's arms."    -St. Therese of Lisieux

All in a day's work!

All for the Immaculate!

Working for Our Lady involves so many things throughout the day, the week, the year.  She is full of surprises.  We see every day how She takes care of us, and shows us her Motherly care - reminding us that She is always with us.

Dr. Josef Pieper articulates a vision of the Catholic work ethic. Pieper juxtaposes otium (the contemplative life) and negotium (the active life) and famously defends leisure and the contemplative life. Many people — and this includes Catholics — overvalue the sphere of work. Pieper believes that work must be seen as a means to an end. The proper end of human work ought to be the attainment of leisure.  Leisure, of course, does not imply idleness or sloth; Pieper would never advocate laziness. For the philosopher, leisure means “intellectual work,” the type of thinking and reflecting proper to humans and the type of mental cognition that makes us most fully human. This type of leisure is required, ironically enough, to produce great art, theology, philosophy, poetry and various other forms of learning and beauty:  “Leisure, it must be clearly understood, is a mental and spiritual attitude — it is not simply the result of external factors. It is not the inevitable result of spare time, a holiday, a weekend or a vacation. It is, in the first place, an attitude of mind, a condition of the soul and as such utterly contrary to the ideal of ‘work’ as activity, as toil, as a social function.”

This type of Leisure allows us to contemplate the Lord, to come close to Him, to commune with Him, to praise Him - under the mantle of Our Holy Mother Mary.

At Notre Dame in Indiana, Fr. Peter Damien Fehlner

Symposium honoring Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner, superb Marioligist, F.I.  was held at Notre Dame on June 8-9, 2015.

There was be a momentous Marian Symposium titled “Sursum Actio” at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana, honoring the lifetime work of Fr. Peter Damian Fehlner, F.I., featuring talks by eminent Mariologists.  We were so blessed to have been able to attend this wonderful event. - See more at: http://airmaria.com/category/speakers/fi-homilists/fr-peter-fehlner/#sthash.PIm3gKxW.dpuf

We were delighted to discover that Indiana is a beautiful farm country with miles and miles of crop lands.  They experienced heavy rains this year for extended periods and many of the crops were adversely effected.  Having a tour the Notre Dame Church (Sacred Heart Parish) was a special bonus -it is filled with such beautiful artwork and amazing relics.   The current neo-gothic church was begun in 1870 and consecrated by Bishop Joseph Gregory Dwenger on August 15, 1888.

Fr. Peter's great Mariological teachings are expemplified in this interview, which he gave on Friday, November 19, 2010 to "Badger Catholic" after a retreat given by Fr. Peter at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Wisconsin:

Fr. Peter:  "Mary's maternal mediation is part of the perfection of Christ's one mediation. We are saying in a general statement that Christ is the one Mediator, but that does not exclude cooperation. He can involve anyone He wants, anyway He wants. He still is the one Mediator, but His Mother is part of this in a very unique way as the only Mother of God. The statement I quoted in my talk is from Pope Benedict XVI three years ago in Brazil. He was reminding the Bishops that in practice our only contact with Christ, especially for the Blessings of redemption, is through Our Lady. He comes to us through her; His Blessings come to us through her. We can't begin to describe this wonder. We are simply stating a very simple fact: If you are alive, you are alive because your mother was generous enough to conceive you and give birth to you. Such generosity is stupendous, because this is the indispensable basis of all else in your life. In the same way, in a higher order of Grace, we are born again of water and the Holy Spirit precisely through the intervention of Our Lady, Spouse of the Holy Spirit."
